French M51 Ballistic Missile fails during test, self destructs shortly after launch

A French M51 SLBM (Submarine Launched Ballistic Missile) test has ended in failure after the missile self destructed shortly after its launch from the French Navy's Le Vigilant SSBN off the coast of Brittany on May 5th 2013.

Republic of Singapore Navy's second Archer-class submarine, RSS Swordsman, fully operational

The Republic of Singapore Navy's (RSN's) second Archer-class submarine, RSS Swordsman, was declared fully operational in a commissioning ceremony at Changi Naval Base on 30 Apr. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Tharman Shanmugaratnam, who officiated the ceremony, presented the commissioning warrant to the Commanding Officer of RSS Swordsman, Lieutenant Colonel (LTC) Loh Mun Heng.

USNS Montford Point mobile landing platform ship Successfully Completes Acceptance Trials

The U.S. Navy's first Mobile Landing Platform, USNS Montford Point (MLP) 1, successfully completed Acceptance Trials on April 19, in San Diego, Calif. Built by General Dynamics-NASSCO, MLP is a highly flexible platform that will provide capability for large-scale logistics movements such as the transfer of vehicles and equipment from sea to shore.

Australia confirms objective for 12 strong Submarine Fleet, rules out off-the-shelf options

Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard, Minister for Defence Stephen Smith and Minister for Defence Materiel Mike Kelly today announced further steps the Government has taken to progress the Future Submarine Program. The 2013 Australian Defence White Paper confirms the Government’s commitment to replacing the existing Collins Class fleet with an expanded fleet of 12 conventional submarines to be assembled in South Australia, but it rules out any submarine design available off-the-shelf.

North Korea is able to reach United States with new nuclear weapons according Pentagon report

North Korea's progress in developing nuclear weapons that could reach the United States depends on continued missile and nuclear tests, a Pentagon report said. The annual report to Congress, presented Thursday, provided an overview of North Korea's military threat and discussed the reclusive country's progress toward developing a nuclear missile, CNN reported Friday, May 3, 2013.
North Korea has recently unveiled the intercontinental ballistic missile Hwasong-13 which would have a maximum range of 9.000 km

United States Air Force X-51A Waverider missile has achieved the longest hypersonic flight

The U.S. Air Force announced Friday, May 3, 2013, its X-51A Waverider missile has achieved the longest hypersonic flight in history, flying for three and a half minutes on scramjet power at more than five times the speed of sound. The final flight of the unmanned aircraft built by Boeing reached Mach 5.1 over the Pacific Ocean on May 1. It traveled over 230 nautical miles in just over six minutes.

Special Forces Group of Belgian army live demonstration pilot rescue after plane crash

Friday, May 3, 2013, during a special day dedicated for the press, the editorial team of Army Recognition has attended the rehearsals of dynamic demonstrations for the open day of Belgian Army land force which will be held, Sunday, May 5, 2013. The Belgian Special Forces Group have demonstrated their skills during a live demonstration which showed a pilot evacuation after a plane crash in hostile territory (Video).
