DCNS begins sea trials with Mohammed VI FREMM multimission frigate for Royal Moroccan Navy

The FREMM frigate built for the Royal Moroccan Navy put to sea for the first time on 17 April. This key milestone marks the launch of sea trials, which will be conducted over the next few weeks off the Brittany coast. The ship will be delivered to the Royal Moroccan Navy at the end of this year, in accordance with the contract schedule.

Datasheet: SIGMA 9813 Frigates Sultan Moulay Ismail & Allal Ben Abdellah - Royal Moroccan Navy

On 10 March 2012, after successful sea trials and finishing of outfitting details, Frigate, Sultan Moulay Ismail, the second of three frigates for the Royal Moroccan Navy built by Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding (DSNS) in Vlissingen, was transferred to the Royal Moroccan Navy. The third frigate, Allal Ben Abdellah, was transfered on 8 September 2012. The last two frigates are SIGMA 9813 Frigates (1,950 tonnes) while the first Frigate delivered by DAMEN is a SIGMA 10513 Frigate (2,185 tonnes).

Datasheet: SIGMA 10513 Tarik Ben Ziad Frigate - Royal Moroccan Navy

On Friday 23 December 2011, HM King Mohammed VI, Supreme Commander and Chief of Staff of the Royal Armed Forces, officially commissioned the SIGMA 10513 Frigate ‘Tarik Ben Ziyad’ for the Moroccan Royal Navy. The 105 meter long SIGMA Frigate, built by Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding, was transferred to the Moroccan Royal Navy in September 2011.

New Moroccan Sigma class frigate Allal Ben Abdallah sails through Sea Acceptance Trials

Recently, the third and last of the Royal Moroccan Navy’s new Sigma class frigates was subjected to its Sea Acceptance Trials (SAT). All Thales systems on board of the ship as well as the functional chains for Anti Air Warfare, Anti Surface Warfare and Electronic Warfare performed flawlessly. Tacticos, Thales’s Combat Management System is the first CMS in the world to have been successfully teamed with the MBDA VL MICA. The ship was commissioned in September 2012.
