Q&A with BAE Systems on Type 26 Frigate Design Update at Euronaval 2012

During Euronaval 2012 in October last year, BAE Systems Maritime – Naval Ships showcased a Type 26 “Global Combat Ship” frigate model with a slightly modified design compared to the big design update unveiled during DSA 2012 in April last year. We asked a few questions to BAE Systems on the reasons behind the latest changes to the design.

DCNS anticipates future applications with its new SMX 26 submarine concept-ship

At this year’s Euronaval show, DCNS unveiled its new concept-ship, SMX 26, a small submarine designed for operation in very shallow waters, in littoral zones not usually accessible for conventional submarine operations.

French Company Sillinger presents its 1200 RIB UM military inflatable boat at Euronaval 2012.

For 50 years, the French Company Sillinger designs and manufactures foldable and semi rigid boats especially for professional of military, security, defence sectors and for civilian use. At Euronaval 2012, the International Maritime and Naval Defence Exhibition of Paris, Sillinger showed its 1200 RIB UM semi-rigid inflatable boat in military configuration, one of the largest boats of the SILLINGER range.

iXBlue won the Export Trophy, showcased its GAPS positioning system at Euronaval 2012

At Euronaval 2012, iXBlue, specializing in navigation and acoustic systems, showcased its GAPS USBL (Ultra Short BaseLine) positioning system. The company was also the recipient of this year's Euronaval Export Trophy.

DCNS presented an export version of its FREMM Frigate and its Gowind range at Euronaval

At Euronaval 2012, DCNS displayed for the first time an export version of its FREMM Multi-mission Frigate with various weapons never seen before on this class of ship. The French Shipyard also showcased its range of Gowind Corvette and OPV.

Subsea Tech exhibited its solutions for harbor and critical infrastructures underwater surveillance

Subsea Tech is a designer, manufacturer and supplier of marine and underwater intervention and instrumentation systems. At Euronaval 2012 the Marseille based company displayed solutions for diver detection, ship hull survey, bottom survey and underwater surveillance (sonar and video).

At Euronaval Sagem introduced BlueNaute, a new-generation shipborne inertial navigation system

French company Sagem (Safran group), the European leader in navigation technologies and systems, introduced its new BlueNaute™ attitude and heading reference system for shipborne applications at Euronaval 2012.

At Euronaval A Plus Systeme Automation introduced its new Radar & Communications servers

French company A PLUS, manufacturer of industrial computers for Defence and Security applications, introduced two new products at Euronaval 2012: The MPS1000 Multi-Protocol Communications Server and the MPR2000 Radar/Sensor Recording, Playback System.

DCNS unveils the new FREMM-ER sporting phased-array antenna and anti-ballistic missile capability

At the 23rd EURONAVAL show, DCNS unveiled the new FREMM-ER (for Extend Range) Frigate dedicated to Air Defense missions. OTO Melara presents a full-size model of its 127/64 LW Light Weight Naval Gun at Euronaval 2012.

At the International Naval Defence & Maritime Exhibition, Euronaval 2012, the Italian Company OTO MELARA presents a full-size model of its 127/64 LW Light Weight Naval Gun Mount. The 127/64LW gun is used on board for the Italian FREMM and the German F125 frigates. This rapid fire gun can be installed on large and medium size ships, for surface fire and naval gunfire support, with anti-aircraft fire as its secondary role.

Thales ASEMAR Autonomous underwater unmanned vehicle for maritime surveillance and security

Underwater mines are readily obtainable by large numbers of armed groups and remain a formidable threat in asymmetric warfare. They can block access to harbours and cause serious economic harm to an entire country. To respond to these new threats, the French Company Thales has developed with several partners, the ASEMAR an autonomous underwater unmanned vehicle for maritime surveillance and security.

 Rheinmetall presents for the first time at Euronaval 2012 its new naval countermeasure MAAS_DUERAS,an enhanced optional version of MASS.
