General Dynamics Land Systems extended contract for GCV Ground Combat Vehicle program

General Dynamics Land Systems and the local business unit of BAE Systems Inc., both in Sterling Heights, have received nearly $340 million combined to extend their early development contracts on the military Ground Combat Vehicle program by six months. 
BAE Systems’ hybrid GCV gives the Army the power to more affordably support new technology enhancements far into the future.

United States talk with Japan to work closely about defense cooperation against regional threats

Visiting top U.S. military officer Martin Dempsey met here Friday with Japanese military chiefs and vowed to cooperate closely with Japan on defense to cope with regional threats. Dempsey, chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, held talks with Japanese Defense Minister Itsunori Onodera and Chairman of the Self-Defense Forces'Joint Staff Shigeru Iwasaki and reaffirmed U.S. commitment to defend Japan under their bilateral alliance.

U.S. and South Korea high level of alert for possible missile launch of North Korea in next 48 hours

Nuclear tension is growing on the Korean Peninsula. Earlier this month, two mid-range BM-25 Musudan missile complexes were positioned on the eastern coast. Intelligence information says the complexes are in a ready-to-launch status. 
The No-Dong-B (BM-25 Musudan) is a medium range ground-to-ground ballistic missile based on the technology of the Russian-made ballistic missile Scud-C.

ATK received a contract from United States to provide low cost guided missile for USSOCOM

ATK (NYSE: ATK) announced today that the company has received a $3.2 million contract award through the Defense Acquisition Challenge (DAC) Program to provide a low-cost, light-weight, precision guided missile for the U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) evaluation. 
The Guided Advanced Tactical Rocket is a 70 mm precision system that uses a semi-active laser guidance package to achieve extreme accuracy against both stationary and moving targets.

United States to send 200 soldiers to Jordan to help Jordanian army

United States Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel told Congress on Wednesday, April 18, 2013, that the Pentagon is sending about 200 soldiers from an Army headquarters unit to Jordan to assist efforts to contain violence along the Syrian border and plan for any operations needed to ensure the safety of chemical weapons in Syria.
Two Jordanian soldiers discuss battle strategies, while a U.S. Soldier stands by in case an interpreter is needed, during a situational training exercise.

United States and Philippines to expand joint military exercises with other countries

The United States and the Philippines are keen on involving troops of other countries such as Japan and Australia in training activities during their annual military exercise, Philippine officials said on Wednesday, April 17, 2013.

Around 100 U.S. military personnel will be deployed to Guam with THAAD defence missile system

Around 100 Army personnel of United States will be deployed to Guam Pacific island territory in coming weeks as the Pentagon moves one of its THAAD missile defense systems designed to knock down hostile targets in the upper atmosphere.
The THAAD missile system is designed to intercept short- and medium range ballistic missiles.

North Korea ratifies nuclear strikes against U.S. after move of THAAD air defense missile to Guam

North Korea 'ratifies' nuclear strike against United States. South Korea says North Korea has moved a missile with medium range capability to its east coast after an unnamed spokesman for the North Korean army warned the U.S. Wednesday, April 3, 2013, that its military has been cleared to wage an attack using "smaller, lighter and diversified nuclear" weapons.
The BM-25 Musudan (or No-Dong-B) is a medium-range ballistic missile mounted on a truck chassis.

Sierra Nevada Corporation delivers first Mobile Tower System MOTS to the United States Army

Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC) has delivered the first Low Rate Initial Production (LRIP) Mobile Tower System (MOTS) to the United States Army ahead of schedule. The LRIP contract was awarded in March 2012 for 10 MOTS. An early development MOTS has been deployed with the 3rd Infantry Division in Afghanistan since November 2012.

Four NATO Patriot batteries of air defence missile systems are now operational in Turkey

NATO now has command and control of two Dutch and two German Patriot batteries located in Adana and Kahramanmaras in the south of Turkey. These four Patriot anti-missile systems are now actively defending these locations from missile threats.

Two Patriot air defence missile systems of German army are now deployed in Turkey on the border with Syria.
