French Procurement Agency experimenting naval drones as the future of anti-mine warfare

The French Defense Procurement Agency (DGA - Direction générale de l’armement) explores the possibilities offered by the use of surface and undersea unmanned vehicles to counter the threat of the naval mines. The innovative concept of "a drone carrying drones" studied in the research study "Espadon (Swordfish)" offers particularly promising solutions. Experiments have been conducted at sea since 2011, in favor of the DGA and the French Navy, off Brest.

Recently, the third and last of the Royal Moroccan Navy’s new Sigma class frigates was subjected to its Sea Acceptance Trials (SAT). China will boost military exchanges with other countries except with Japan

China's military exchanges with other countries will see a small upsurge at the end of 2012. The only exception is Japan, which is involved in a dispute with China over the Diaoyu Islands. Experts said China can deepen understanding with other countries by increasing military exchanges and cooperation. They also urged Japan to correct its mistake on the Diaoyu Islands issue.

India is to soon offer American aircraft manufacturer Boeing a deal to supply 15 heavy-lift helicopters to the Indian Air Force, local media reported Tuesday, October 30, 2012. The Press Trust of India reported that unidentified Indian Defense Ministry officials said talks on the price of the aircraft and procurement details are the result of Boeing emerging as the low bidder in a helicopter procurement competition.
The CH-47D is an American twin-engine, tandem rotor heavy-lift helicopter designed and manufactured by the Company Boeing.

France and United States put pressure on Algeria to back a military intervention in Mali

France and the United States are stepping pressure on Algeria to back a military intervention in Mali, where Islamist fighters have taken control off the northern region. "An intervention in northern Mali is possible without the military backing of Algeria but not without its green light," Pierre Boilley, the head of the Centre of African Studies, a French think-tank, said on Sunday, October 29, 2012.

Elbit Systems has awarded a contract to supply remote weapon station REMAX to Brazilian army

Elbit Systems has annonced October 24, 2012, that Ares Aeroespacial e Defensa Ltda. ("Ares"), its Brazilian subsidiary, was awarded an initial production order valued at approximately $25 million to supply 12.7/7.62mm Remote Controlled Weapon Stations (RCWS) to the Brazilian Army. The RCWS, named REMAX, a unique development of Ares, will be supplied within two years.
The REMAX is a stabilized and servo controlled weapon station for .50” and 7,62 mm machine guns developed according to the requirements of the Brazilian Army.

Russia has successfully completed the firing of a new prototype of intercontinental ballistic missile

Russian Strategic Missile Troops tested Wednesday, October 24, 2012, a prototype of a new intercontinental ballistic missile on the Kapustin Yar polygon located in the Astrakhan region (Volga), announced the press office of the Russian Ministry of Defence.
The new Russian Intercontinental ballistic missile will replace the ballistic missile R-36M2 Voevoda, known in the West under the name of SS-18 Satan.

Russia would spend some 250 billion U.S. dollars for national defense in the next three years

Russia would spend 7.7 trillion rubles (some 250 billion U.S. dollars) for national defense in the next three years, a high-ranking member of the State Duma said Wednesday, October 24, 2012. By 2020 some 645 billion dollars would be used to develop and procure modern weapons, said Vladimir Komoyedov, head of the Defense Committee of the State Duma.

Boeing Corporation has started the second phase of tests of the prototype of HEL MD mobile laser gun. During the tests, specialists will shoot the 10-kW solid-state laser. The power of the laser can be increased. All tests of the HEL MD laser gun are to be finished within three years. Afterwards, the military will launch the experimental use of the laser gun, CNews reports.
