Renault Trucks Defense and Uralvagonzavod will develop a new range of armoured vehicles

The Uralvagonzavod research and production company, OJSC has entered into a cooperation agreement with Renault Trucks Defense. The document was signed at the IDEX-2013 International Defense Exhibition, which opened in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, on February 17.

France selects ThalesRaytheonSystems to supply its third Ground Master 400 3d air defense radar

The French defense procurement agency (DGA) has selected ThalesRaytheonSystems (TRS) to supply the French Air Force with a third Ground Master 406 radar for the Lyon Mont-Verdun airbase. The order follows an earlier award announced on September 7, 2012 to provide an identical radar for the Nice Mont-Agel base.
The Ground Master 400 is part of the ThalesRaytheonSystems family of fully digital 3D air defense radars.

U.S. and Europe work for an option to provide non-lethal military equipment to Syrian rebels

The United States and Europe may begin equipping the rebel Free Syrian Army (FSA) with vehicles, body armor, night vision gear and binoculars, as well as military training. The decision is expected after a key conference on Syria in Rome. The Obama administration is working with European allies on possibly giving non-lethal equipment to Syrian rebel fighters, U.S. and European officials said.

Kuwait Naval Force selects Abu Dhabi Ship Building for future Landing Craft requirements

Abu Dhabi Ship Building (ADSB), the Arabian Gulf’s only specialized naval warship builder today announced the Kuwait Navy has selected the company for their future Landing Craft programs.  The announcement by ADSB, one of Mubadala’s defense-related companies, took place during the International Defense Exhibition (IDEX) 2013 which takes place 17th - 21st February.

The Russian Airborne Troops (RAT) will be mainly equipped with domestically-designed armored vehicles, including Tigr-M, RAT Commander Col. Gen. Vladimir Shamanov said. “Our brigade-level air assault units will have an armored car component based on Tigr vehicles,” Shamanov said at a news conference in RIA Novosti on Monday. “The deliveries of Tigr-M will start soon, and the first recipients of these vehicles will be special forces units.”

Successful first flight test of Israeli-made Arrow III ballistic missile interceptor

Israel successfully carried out Monday, February 25, 2013, the first flight test of its Arrow III ballistic missile interceptor, the Israeli Defense Ministry said in a statement. The ministry's Missile Defense Organization and the U.S. Missile Defense Agency jointly conducted the trial from an Israeli range on the Mediterranean coast.

Iranian Army plans to test-fire new anti-chopper man-portable air defence missile system

The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) of Iranian army plans to test-fire an indigenous shoulder-launched weapon which can shoot down choppers in the ongoing wargames in Southeastern Iran. The IRGC Ground Force started massive wargames, codenamed Payambar-e Azam 8 (The Great Prophet 8), which include exercising different defense tactics, in Southern Iran on Saturday, February 23, 2013.
Iran has already developed and manufactured several air defense missile systems based on Russian technology.

Libya has taken delivery of 49 NIMR 4x4 light tactical armoured vehicles from Jordan

Libya has taken delivery of 49 NIMR armoured support vehicles from Jordan. Some 120 of the UAE-designed and built NIMRs, in two variants, have already been in service with the Libyan army, reports Libya Herald.
Currently 120 NIMR 4x4 light tactical armoured vehicles are in service with the Libyan army.

Slovakia will reinforce its military unit within the ISAF international mission in Afghanistan with another 160 soldiers, said the Slovak Defence Ministry on Friday, February 22, 2013. "The special operations group will be sent to the NATO mission to fulfil the support, mentoring and advisory tasks for Afghan security forces," said the ministry in a statement.

Bumar set up new main battle tank construction consortium to create modular tracked platform

On 14th February in Warsaw, Bumar Sp. z o.o., together with other companies of the Polish defense industry set up a new main battle tank construction consortium. The goal of the consortium, according to the records, is performing research and development works and the implementation of “Universal Modular Tracked Platform in a Direct Support Vehicle/New Main Battle Tank version” to the production stage.
The Anders is a Multirole Tracked Combat Platform designed and developed by Obrum part of the Bumar Group.

U.S. has deployed drone in Niger to provide intelligence collection to French Forces in Mali

U.S. President Barack Obama said Friday, February 22, 2013, that his country has deployed about 100 military personnel to the West African country of Niger. Obama said the deployment "will provide support for intelligence collection and will also facilitate intelligence sharing with French forces conducting operations in Mali and with other partners in the region."

A dozen of Chadian soldiers were killed in Mali during fighting against Islamist rebels

More than a dozen Chadian soldiers died Friday, February 22, 2013, in a fighting in northern Mali which also killed 65 al Qaida-linked Islamist rebels, the Chadian army said. The casualties were the heaviest for African and French troops since the start of their military campaign against the Malian rebels, which hold the northern part of the Western African country.

RADA Announces Successful Testing of its Advanced C-RAM Counter-Artillery Radar

RADA Electronic Industries announces successful testing of its advanced Multi-Mission Hemispheric Radar (MHR) with the RPS-40 Counter-Artillery, Rockets and Mortars (C-RAM) mission. The RPS-40 mission provides tactical accuracies of the Point of Origin (POO) and the Point of Impact (POI).
RADA’s MHR radar is a software defined radar that can be configured to different missions, including fire alerting, border protection and tactical air surveillance.

MDA test marks first time Aegis uses information from satellites to track, intercept target

In business, time is money. When it comes to missile defense, time is even more valuable. The sooner an attack is detected the better the chances it can be destroyed. The U.S. Missile Defense Agency (MDA) took a giant step in shaving that detection time on Feb. 13 when the USS Lake Erie’s Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) system used remote tracking information provided by satellites to intercept a medium range unitary ballistic missile target for the first time.

South Korea deploys cruise missile against North Korea in response of its nuclear missile tests

South Korea's military is deploying cruise missiles capable of striking the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and accelerating the development of ballistic missiles, officials said Wednesday. "We have deployed a cruise missile that can strike any and all parts of North Korea (DPRK)," Seoul's defense ministry spokesman Kim Min-seok told reporters at a press briefing.
The latest version of South Korean-made cruise missile, the Hyunmoo-IIIB is able to hit a target at a maximum range of 1,000 km with high accuracy.

French Army takes delivery of first VBCI armoured infantry fighting vehicle FELIN-capable variant

The French army has received the first FELIN-capable variant of its VBCI armored infantry fighting vehicle. The variant specifically supports troops equipped with the FELIN soldier system, enabling them to recharge the batteries of manpack electronic systems for dismounted operations and use those systems from within the troop-carrying vehicle.
The French VBCI 8x8 armoured infantry fighting vehicle is currently deployed with the French Army for the military Operation Serval in Mali.
