Barracuda SSN: DCNS opens combat system shore integration facility

Over 100 people, including DCNS employees and representatives of the DGA, the French Navy and partners, attended a ceremony at the Toulon naval base on Wednesday 28 November to inaugurate the combat system shore integration facility for the Suffren, the first nuclear-powered attack submarine of the new Barracuda type. The combat system is the submarine’s central nervous system. It manages all command and control functions involving all sensors and weapons in real time.

Serbia is considering to buy Russian fighter aircraft to increase its air force military power

Serbia is considering Russia’s offer to renew its air force with jets made by state-owned United Aircraft Corp. JSC (UNAC), Defense Minister Aleksandar Vucic said. The offer came in response to Serbia’s request in 2010 and the government is considering it now because “we are interested in increasing our military power,” Vucic told reporters in Belgrade today, after meeting with Russian Deputy Premier Dmitry Rogozin.

Rheinmetall has delivery MANTIS air defence system to the German Air Force

The German Air Force took formal delivery today of the Rheinmetall-made MANTIS air defence system at a ceremony in Husum, Germany, home of Air Defence Missile Squadron 1 “Schleswig-Holstein”. Bodo Garbe, a member of the Executive Board of Rheinmetall Defence, handed over the system in front of the assembled troops.
The NBS (Nächstbereichschutzsystem) MANTIS is equipped with six 35mm automatic guns, two sensor units and a ground control unit.

After success of Iron Dome against Hamas Rockets South Korea shows interest to buy the system

The Israeli Ministry of Defense is in talks with South Korea's Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. Ltd to purchase four patrol boats for the Israel Navy to protect Israel's exclusive economic zone. If the $400 million deal goes ahead, the ministry is expected to demand reciprocal procurements by Korea of the advanced missile interception system made by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Ltd.

Turkey asks NATO the deployment of 18 to 20 Patriot surface-to-air missile defence systems

Turkey has asked NATO to deploy 18 to 20 Patriot missiles along its border with Syria, but the Alliance only offered about eight to 10 missiles, NTV news channel reported Wednesday, November 28, 2012. A NATO team surveyed sites in Turkey's eastern Anatolian province of Malatya for the possible deployment of Patriot missiles.
The MIM-104 Patriot is a surface-to-air missile (SAM) system, the primary of its kind used by the United States Army and several allied nations.

Since Iron Dome became a star during the latest Gaza-Israel conflict, more and more Israeli conscripts are willing to join the Iron Dome team. Israel's Air Defense Corps used to struggle to spark enthusiasm among high school seniors to embark on their mandatory military service.

Spanish Company Eleycon 21 will deliver Husky 2G mine IED detection vehicle to Spanish army

The Spanish Company Eleycon 21 was awarded a contract from the Spanish Army for the delivery of IEDs detection vehicle Husky 2G for a total amount of 12.76 million of Euro. The tender was been processed under an urgent requirement and negotiate without official publication.
The Husky 2G is a two seats variant of the standard Husky mine/IED detection armoured vehicle. The Husky 2G is currently in use by the U.S. Army soldiers in Afghanistan.

NATO officials to survey Turkey-Syria border for possible deployment of Patriot air defense missile

NATO officials will start surveying sites along the Turkey-Syria border on Tuesday, November 27, 2012, for possible deployment of Patriot air defense systems, the Turkish General Staff said in a statement. Severodvinsk Multirole Nuclear-Powered Attack Submarine Fires First Cruise Missile

Russia's newest attack submarine, the Project 855 Severodvinsk, successfully fired its first cruise missile at a land target during manufacturer's sea trials in the White Sea, a source in the United Shipbuilding Corporation told RIA Novosti on Monday. The Severodvinsk, laid down in 1993, is one of eight Yasen-class boats being built for the Russian Navy.

Northrop Grumman Corporation and the U.S. Navy have added a second Triton unmanned aircraft to ground testing efforts in late September – part of an initial step in preparation for flight operations. BAE Systems successfully completes sea trials for its new Bofors 40 Mk4 40mm naval gun system

BAE Systems has successfully conducted the first ship-borne live fire testing of its future Bofors 40 Mk4 40 mm single-barrel naval gun system. The sea trials took place in Sweden (Baltic Sea) with the gun mounted on an older Swedish Navy picket ship.
