Rheinmetall hands over Gladius future soldier system to the German army

Rheinmetall formally transferred its new IdZ-ES future soldier system to the German Bundeswehr on 7 March 2013. Short for “Infanterist der Zukunft – Erweitertes System” or “Future Soldier – Expanded System”, IdZ-ES is also known as the “Gladius”. The handover ceremony coincided with the 10th Armoured Division’s traditional “International Division Skiing Championship” at Ruhpolding in Upper Bavaria.

New €84 million order of 64 more systems Gladius future soldier equipment for German Army

Moves by the German Bundeswehr to equip its infantry forces with the state-of-the-art Gladius soldier system are gathering pace. In January 2013, the Düsseldorf, Germany-based Rheinmetall Group was awarded an order to supply a further sixty systems. The procurement programme began in 2012 with an initial order of thirty systems, enough to equip 300 troops.

Cassidian Optronics will supply new thermal imaging unit for Leopard 2 tanks of German army

Cassidian Optronics GmbH, previously known as Carl Zeiss Optronics GmbH, will supply the new “Attica” thermal imaging unit for the commander’s periscope in the Bundeswehr’s Leopard 2 battle tanks.
